SWEET LIZZIE PATTERN CORRECTION

My latest quilt pattern, Sweet Lizzie, is currently available as a kit through Keepsake Quilting.  The pattern is also available from me through my Etsy shop.  The quilt uses RJR Fabrics Afternoon in the Attic, which is full of flowery, romantic pastel fabrics.  The pattern also includes the master foundation patterns as a second option to foundation-piece the three- and four-inch variable star blocks and the three-inch snowball blocks.

Unfortunately, it has just come to my attention that there is a typo error on page 8.  Obviously, this is one of the biggest fears of a pattern designer!  I do proofread everything at least a dozen times, and triple-check all of my measurements, but this one little fraction slipped passed me.  I apologize to everyone who has purchased the pattern and am hoping that anyone who has started making the pattern will see this blog post or my post on Facebook.  For the Etsy patterns I sell directly, I have made the change already.
IF YOU PURCHASED THE SWEET LIZZIE KIT OR PATTERN, THE CORRECTION TO PAGE 8 HAS BEEN MADE BELOW:

 3" Variable Square--Star Points--Cut four 1-5/8" squares, then cut diagonally once--yields 8 triangles.

If you purchased the kit or pattern and would like an updated pdf version of page 8, please email me at bloominginchintz@earthlink.net and write PAGE 8 in the Subject Line and I will email it to you.  My apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused!

Here are some additional pictures of the quilt:

And a big thank you to Joanne Flamand of Alberta, Canada who quilted Sweet Lizzie for me.  She did a beautiful job!

And for those of you who think that I have given up my blog altogether, I haven't!  This has been a crazy and unpredictable year so far and I have just not had the motivation to write about much of anything.  A few months ago, we had to cope with the unexpected loss of my mother-in-law the night we got home from our 30th anniversary vacation.  Thankfully, we were able to say our sad good-byes just in time, as though she were waiting for us to come home.  It was a shock the way it all played out, but life won't be the same without her.  She was truly one of the best "mother-in-laws" I could have asked for and I am grateful that she and I had such a wonderful relationship over the last 34 years.  Even though she never took up sewing, she absolutely loved and adored quilts and everything handmade.  She loved everything I ever made or gave her and I know she truly appreciated all of it.  She would have been 90 this week.

I've also been trying to play "catch-up" on my own quilts and things that have been left unfinished for way too long.  I've made a little progress, which I will show in another post.  But the reality is, I don't think I will ever "catch up!"  So it's been a matter of setting priorities and juggling my time between work and quilting.

Our custom apparel business my husband and I own has also been extremely time-consuming this year as well.  We are currently in the process of expanding and growing and while it is all very exciting, it has taken up much more of my quilting time.  So when I do have a moment to spare, you better believe it is in front of my sewing machine and not in front of the computer!  I do have a couple of things I plan to share in further detail on my blog that I have already posted pics of on both Instagram and Facebook, it's just a matter of taking the time to write.

To those of you who are still following along with me, thank you for your loyalty and tremendous patience!  I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far.  And again, my apologies for the pattern error!  Happy Quilting!

My Patterns and AQS Daytona Show

Yes, it's been awhile. . . I think I will just skip past the subject of how much time has gone by or where I've been!  Yes, I've been busy and yes, I am way behind on blogging!  If you are really curious as to what I am making and want to keep up, I do try to post more often on Instagram (and simultaneously on my Facebook page) due to the fact it is just so much quicker and easier.

I've added a few more patterns to my Etsy store since I last wrote in November.  Above is the most recent quilt, Paris Romance, made with Robyn Pandolph fabrics from her Mon Cheri line. RJR Fabrics will be offering this to stores as a kit and you can also buy just the pattern from me. Below is another color option from the same line of fabrics for inspiration only; however, this is not being offered as a kit.  I love seeing how color and fabrics completely transform the same quilt!
And here are a few table runners I designed which are available as kits through Keepsake Quilting and Missouri Quilt Company.  I also have the patterns available in my stores.

Due out very soon, my quilt, Faded Memories, will be sold as a kit to stores by RJR Fabrics and I will also have the pattern available for sale in about a month.
Here is a close-up picture of the quilt.  The fabrics are from RJR's Afternoon in the Attic collection, soon to be released.

Recently the AQS Quilt Show was in Daytona Beach, so I am including some pics from the show.  Many of these need to be seen in person to really get the full appreciation of the quilt.  The amount of machine (and hand) quilting is beyond words, it is mind boggling to see the incredible workmanship in some of these quilts.  To save time, I tried to photograph the maker's name for each instead of typing out the info.  They are in no particular order.

There are several more to show, but I am out of time, so I hope to include those pics in another blog post.  Until next time, Happy Quilting!

Garden Star Medallion Quilt Pattern

I am fast forwarding over the last few months to the final end product of what has been a lot of work and tons of hours.  As I mentioned in my last post back in July, I have been doing some designing for RJR Fabrics and also have learned a lot about pattern writing and publishing in the mean time.
Up until now, I have never written quilt patterns before.  Part of my resistance in doing so has always been due to the fact that I knew if I was going to do it at all, I would need to learn the software that would enable me to illustrate diagrams as well as write good patterns.  Needless to say, this summer was like going back to school!  It was not easy.  There was definitely a huge learning curve as well as more work than I could have imagined.
Of course, I never make things easy on myself.  I honestly did not know how "over my head" I was when I started writing the pattern for this quilt.    But I persevered and after a couple of weeks of working on it, I actually wound up with something I am really proud of.  I owe a huge thank you and am eternally grateful to Judy Martin, one of the quilt industry's biggest icons, whose design career spans more than 35 years.  She was kind and generous enough to spend over 90 minutes with me on a long distance phone call.  She guided me on a crash course in Adobe Illustrator to get me started drawing quilt diagrams as well as sharing invaluable inside info on pattern publishing.  If it wasn't for her giving me that push, I probably would not have gotten through this.
This medallion quilt was designed with Robyn Pandolph's new fabric line, Garden Gate, by RJR Fabrics.  It is currently due out in stores everywhere as well as online.  The quilt is being offered as a kit by RJR Fabrics to quilt shops around the country.  I am also selling just the pattern in my Etsy store.  If you purchase the pattern on Etsy, you will receive a 20 page 8 1/2" x 11" paper pattern in the mail.  I have also added the option to purchase as a downloadable PDF file that you will print entirely on your own printer if you do not wish to pay shipping.  However, either version is the same full-color pattern with detailed instructions and color illustrations and diagrams, 20 total pages plus a cover.

Here are several photos of the actual quilt so you can get a better look at the fabrics. . . .

The longarm quilting was done by Ramona Sorenson of Corn Wagon Quilts in Springville, Utah.  I was very happy to turn that task over to someone else on this quilt and could actually get used to the idea of having someone quilt my quilts for me.

I will also have two more patterns available very soon, both are table runners.  One is a companion to this Garden Star Medallion quilt done in the same fabrics.  The other one is done in RJR Fabrics' 30s line, Everything But the Kitchen Sink.  Both will be sold as kits exclusively by Missouri Quilt Company.  As soon as they have them showing on their web site, I will share photos of those as well.

For those of you who are patiently waiting for me to write patterns of my other quilts, I still have not done so yet.  I apologize for taking so long, but my time is so limited, I have had more than I can keep up with just doing projects for RJR and getting through this first round.

And now for the most exciting news of all. . . I was notified a few weeks ago that my quilt, Grandmother's Cabin, has won an award in the Traditional Pieced category at the International Quilt Festival in Houston this month!  They don't tell you what exactly what prize you've won.  But I am pretty blown away to have won anything in that show, just being recognized is a huge honor.  So we are flying out to attend the awards ceremony at the end of the month and since we will be there, we will be attending Quilt Market and staying over to see Quilt Festival.  I am super excited, this was not planned ahead at all.  Everything just sort of magically came together in the last couple of weeks.  I will take lots of pictures to share, that show is always so full of inspiration, I can't wait.

Until next time, Happy Quilting!
